Visual Field : Senses & Transfigurations, an exhibition expressing the conceptualization of data visualization; this includes the perception of visual information, sensing of the image, and the rationale behind the creation of each piece and transformation into contemporary art practices. The conceptualization is reached through each individual’s personality, experience and interpretation.

The visual field function is the area perceived between each person’s pair of eyes, where both the left and right eyes work together, referred to as the combination of visual field. To process the information perceived, the visual information is converted into brain data by sending the left and right signals to the visual cortex for interpretation, then turned into responses: vision-for- perception, vision-for-action, and vision control (psychological, logical, or expressive response).

An artistic eye is naturally sensitive to visual elements, and therefore beneficial to the conversion of visual information into creative processes and into a subject for art. Through the artist’s visual field function, the artist may process and transmit images differently depending on their distinct realities – with variation in culture, technology, societal changes, economic and environmental changes, beliefs, values, and nature or state of mind, etc. This results in different interpretations, and hence artwork.

Curated by Suebsang Sangwachirapiban, the five artists featured in this exhibition include: Kade Javanalikhikara, Jedsada Tangtrakulwong, Navin Tantanadaecha, Sanitas Pradittasnee and Sujin wattanawongchai. The artworks manifest each artist’s processing, interpretations, and composition of their artistic visions. 14 selected pieces will reflect the visualisation of current subjects and situations – glocalisation and regionalism. While witnessing these artworks and trying to decipher the meanings, audiences are also invited to recognize their visual processes and to share their experience and interpretation of what they see.

This selection of Thai contemporary art is evidence and a reflection of the society and its development of art in these current times – reflecting the society’s identity, changes, beliefs, notion and spirit, and what it means to be “contemporary” now.

For 32 years, River City Bangkok has been Asia’s premier art and antique centre. In 2018, River City’s 3,000 square meter second floor is being transformed to accommodate contemporary art, including an enlarged RCB Galleria, the new RCB Photographers’ Gallery, the 96 seat RCB Forum, RCB VIP lounge, and retail stores. Located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, River City Bangkok will host a series of international and national exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, photography, and film. Each will be supported with a program of talks.

Artist: 

Kade Javanalikhikara, Professor in painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiangmai University, is an abstract painter himself. Most recently, he held his solo exhibition, Impressionist Expressionist at ARTIST+RUN gallery.

Jedsada Tangtrakulwong, former lecturer at both Maharsarakham University and Chiangmai University, he is a installation artist. Having his worked featured both locally and internationally, Jedsada Tangtrakulwong will also be a part of the upcoming Thailand Biennale, Krabi 2018.

Navin Tantanadaecha, as water color painter, as well as Teaching Assistant of the International School Bangkok. Recently, he participated in Watercolor Biennale in Hong Kong, World Watercolor Arts Biennale in Thailand, and won an award at the International Watercolor Biennale in Pakistan.

Sanitas Pradittasnee, an installation artist, who incorporates her skills in architecture and landscape design in her artworks. Having won many awards and held numerous exhibitions, at such venues as BACC, TCDC, The Art Center, she will also be featured in Bangkok Art Biennale 2018.

Sujin Wattanawongchai, an abstract painter, whose works are collected and well-loved by both local and international collectors, he is also a selected artist for the upcoming Jeju Art Festival.

ประวัติศิลปิน:
คุณ​เกศ ชวนะลิขิกร เป็นอาจารย์ด้านภาพวาด คณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่
ซึ่งส่วนตัวท่านก็ทำงานศิลปะด้านภาพวาดอยู่แล้ว และเพิ่งได้มีงานนิทรรศการเดี่ยว “Impressionist Expressionist” ที่
