New Year 2017: The Candlelight of Siam

On 31 December 2016 Tourism Authority of Thailand organised the traditional Candlelight of Siam at Sanam Luang, Bangkok and various locations in Thailand to incorporate tributes to the Thai monarchy as well as to go into another year for Thai people, inviting both Thais and expats living in Thailand to be part of the ceremony.

On behalf of the whole nation and its people, H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand said, ‘We would like Candlelight of Siam to be a meaningful event which celebrates everything that unites all of us as one people in this country – our loyalty, our faith and our love and respect.’

This event is for everyone to reflect through praying, sharing and candle lighting on the unique culture and heritage which we shared as part of Thailand and welcome the year to come.
