Gasworks has selected Thai Artist “Tanat Teeradakorn” for a residency

Bangkok, 20 December 2023 – Following an open call to artists in Thailand, which has provided an exciting snapshot of emerging talents in the country, Gasworks, in partnership with The Institutum, has selected Tanat Teeradakorn (b. 1991, Bangkok, Thailand) for a residency, which will take place from April to June 2024.

Tanat Teeradakorn is a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, DJ, and graphic designer. Working across multiple mediums including sound, music, performance, text, printmaking, merchandise design, and installation, he often creates immersive and all-encompassing situations where the audience plays an integral part.

By combining dissonant fragments of biography, memory, and data with historical narratives, Tanat’s work interrogates the ways in which cultural narrative constructs, circulates, and replicates across media, culture, and spatial context.

Previous Works from Tanat Teeradakorn

A graduate in Communication Art & Design from Bangkok University, with a Masters in Fine Art & Design from Werkplaats Typografie, Arnhem (Netherlands), Tanat is a prolific artist who has participated in multiple solo and group exhibitions in Bangkok and Berlin. Most recently – Chaos Mandala: National Coloration Complex, Solo exhibition at Bangkok CityCity Gallery (2023); Artist in residency Presentation, Solo eExhibition at A LESTE, Porto (2022); Transmediale Group Exhibition at silent green Kulturquartier, Berlin (2023).

During the residency at Gasworks, Tanat will undertake on-site research across multiple historical locations in London. He is focusing on the subject of the Glorious Revolution in England (the events of 1688–89 that resulted in the deposition of James II and the accession of his daughter Mary II and her husband, William III), and the story behind the creation of the Magna Carta (June 1215). Concurrently, he will develop new work from the research, combining it with the historical trajectory between Thailand and the UK, and their current socio-political contexts.
