Pool at Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort

The path less travelled: Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort

We are massive fans of the serene shores of Khao Lak in Phang Nga province, Southern Thailand. Between the beaches, island hopping, golf and a plethora of fabulous hotels, Khao Lak offers a lot. So when the Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort invited us for our seventh stay in the region, we jumped at the offer.

Why visit Khao Lak?

Khao Lak’s allure lies in its tranquil ambiance, setting it apart from its bustling neighbour Phuket. Accessibility is another advantage there is no need to catch a boat as it’s easily accessible by road

The unspoiled mainland beaches with their natural white sand and beachfront hotels hidden amongst the trees offer a serene getaway that’s hard to resist.

For those seeking an affordable beachfront hotel with exceptional service, the Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort is an ideal choice. This resort caters to a wide range of travellers, from those on a romantic getaway in private villas to families with children who can take advantage of the Coral Kids’ Club.

Room at Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort

Located on the beachfront of the glorious Andaman Sea. The resort is a 90-minute drive from Phuket International Airport. The road is excellent, not a pothole in sight! Phang Nga is earmarked for significant tourist development but now is the time to enjoy its unspoiled charms.

Our Deluxe Garden Terrace room is spacious and perfect for relaxation, overlooking the gorgeous gardens. It’s a big smile for me for the elephant towel art on the bed and the mega large palm frond stencil on the wall.To me, it all screams switch off and have a great holiday.

Housekeeping would win awards for their attention to detail and use of flowers, even the bath mat has been decorated with a frangipani flower. On the second day, Auka arrives to make the bed with a beaming smile and a sweet dreams love heart, woven from a local palm.

Bang Sak Beach

Beach at Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort

If you like your beaches to be very natural, where you can walk in both directions for many kilometres, you will enjoy Bang Sak Beach. If you’re looking for beach clubs stay in Phuket.

Swimming Pool

One of life’s joys is walking into the inviting pool. Its charming position surrounded by shady palm trees overlooking the beach makes it one of the nicest pool areas around, in my humble opinion!

On site dining combines Thai and Western cuisine. The breakfast at Mala Kitchen provides a wide selection, with the choice of indoor or outdoor seating overlooking the kitchen garden.

Edgewater Restaurant is best for sunset drinks at the beachfront bar. The resort was fairly quiet during our stay, our dinners enhanced by live music, a staple of the Outrigger dining experience. We highly recommend trying their Massaman curry.

Activities

Massage lady at Outrigger

Each day activities are organized by the resort. From beach volleyball and Thai boxing, as well as stretching and yoga to kickstart your day. I attended the early morning yoga class, and it truly was the best way to begin the day!

For those into water sports, the Andaman Sea is a perfect place for sea kayaking or paddle boarding and then of course don’t forget a poolside massage!

Discovering Phang Nga

For those wanting to explore further afield, the hotel offers a shuttle to Phang Nga town and a local market.

Locally you can book excursions to the must-see local attractions:

  • James Bond Island (30-minute drive to Thap Lamu Pier)
  • Similan and Surin Islands
  • Ao Phang Nga National Park with the largest native mangrove forest in Thailand

Don’t miss the Samet Nangshe Viewpoint, 84km away, offering spectacular views of endless Thailand islands that are all over Instagram!
