Samui diaries

Day 1.

I arrived after catching the ferry from Donsak pier to Samui on Monday 1st May and drove to my hotel the delightful U Samui in Bang Chak.

Set on the beach with a lovely swimming pool and very comfortable rooms with terraces overlooking the stunning bay I was ready for a cup of tea. I sat on the terrace drinking in all aspects of the view laid out in front of me.

I had a light meal in the all day dining restaurant by the pool and the pleasant staff remembered me from when I came in November.

I had a light dinner, kale salad with chicken breast, it was very well presented and I teamed it with a mango and coconut milk smoothie served in a green coconut shell.

At 8.30pm I had finished and decided to return to the room to chill and I was soon asleep on the extremely soft and relax king bed. I toted with leaving the patio doors open and listening to sound of water but it is May now so pretty humid and decided against it.

Day 2.

My hosts Lynn and Karl Grebstad collected me for lunch at 1pm sharp and took me to a favourite haunt of theirs called … run by a German lady. We sat overlooking the beach under a canopy and tree and watched the world whilst we talked and caught up.

In the evening I had been invited to the Samui Summer Jazz Festival launch night at the W Hotel Samui. First of 5 consecutive nights at a different 5 star hotel each night. Live entertainment for a minimal fee touring Asia. Modern jazz, not as I had expected Kenny Ball and all laid back, but lively freestyle saxophonists, musicians and friends getting it on. It was lively and was accompanied by a host of singers, one our two of the ladies were very talented.

Then the weather made an appearance. I had said that it seemed to be coming our way and if 15 minutes it came in buckets. Watching the electricians and musicians desperately trying to cover their expensive recording gear and all the electrics connected to them. I am sorry but for me it added another beverage emotion, seeing 40 people running about with plastic covering and cling film. I watched on with great interest and much concern but also enjoyed the bizarre drama that played out in front of me.

Anyway soon after everything had been covered with plastic and no major electrical alarming experience incurred luckily.

The crowd of elegant diners at the W Hotel eating under the stars had a rude awakening the weather Gods are in charge. It came down swiftly and heavily for 30/40 minutes then it stopped and the band returned uncovered and starting playing. Fine games I say.

I enjoyed the spectacle and not drinking at the moment, just water, I would like to lose weight – 10/15 kings but I have a sweet tooth and my eyes take over for an hour or so.

Let’s see what follows…

Have a good evening.
