Nakhon Sawan in Central Thailand

This weekend Expat Life headed North North West 243kms via the AH2, just over 3 hours to Nakhon Sawan in central Thailand. The name literally means “Heavenly city” and the city is the capital of the province.

It has a population of 82,305 and those that I met were very pleasant. I stayed in a local Thai hotel call Tamsabai Hotel where the staff were very pleasant. I caused a bit if a stir when I arrived as I speak little Thai and the staff were a little overawed and did not really speak English but we got by and after 3 days I had made friends with them all.

The key landmark and attraction of the city is the hilltop pagoda Chulamani where the Wat Khiri Wong and City Tower sit. The tower is 32 metres high and affords a wonderful 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside.

The city is also the acknowledged source of the Chao Phrakanong River. Wat Sriutumpron built in 1942. The abbot Joi Jantasuwanno was given the name God of Pak Nam Pho by the local people. It is one of many beautiful temples in and around the town.

Paradise Park located on the Asian highway has a large lake “Nong Somboonpakron” in its grounds which is a wonderful gift to the people.
