Mövenpick Siam Hotel Na Jomtien Pattaya

Having spent Saturday the 8th December watching the Argentine Polo at the Thai Polo & Equestrian Club on the 331 on the outskirts of Pattaya we retired to my favourite hotel in the area the Siam Pattaya Movenpick in Na Jomtien.

As you turn off the main road and go through the security barrier the physical and mental stresses of the day subside as we drove down the driveway and up the ramp to the circular entranceway.The porters were already out and in position as I opened the rear hatch to provide access to the luggage. Unpacking the various suitcases, suit hangers and weekend cases, you could be mistaken for thinking we were staying for a fortnight, but when I am travelling with the car I always carry too much luggage.

The Movenpick Siam reception is bright and welcoming with plenty of staff to cater for the many guests. We checked in and were shown to the lifts by the same young lady. Nice touch. We were on the 25th floor but all the rooms face the sea so when I walked in the first thing I did was draw the net curtains and open the wide patio doors exposing the view out to sea with the islands in the distant future and the spacious balcony.

In the evening I had booked a table at T55, the hotels signature New York restaurant, serving the best of beef options from around the world. I chose a medium rare, tenderloin 280gms USA grain fed steak with sautéed spinach and mashed potato. With a delightful Malbec Argentinian red wine and still mineral water to complement. My guest chose the Snow fish which was delightfully cooked and presented on a bed of stemmed broccoli.

My steak was cooked to perfection, charred but blood red in the centre. The spinach (my favourite – Popeye has a lot to answer for) and the mashed potato, smooth and buttery, and the peppercorn sauce ensured that I enjoyed my meal. My guest ate and enjoyed the Snow fish which flaked as it was eaten. The wine was a pleasure and the still water diluted its effect. A very pleasant evening with a beautiful view over the swimming pool and beyond with the green lights of the fishing boats on the horizon.

The following day we visited the spa which was a real treat. We had a two hour aromatherapy massage and my therapist although petite was quite strong and unlocked places I did not know I had! I left floating on air and would certainly go again if we were staying longer.

The hotel is well run, the staff seem happy greeting us with a smile each time we met them and have been trained well. The decor is minimalistic but pleasing both in the common areas and the rooms. The breakfast buffet was extensive and varied and the Swiss hospitality comes shining through.

We left the patio doors in our room open all day and night to hear the sounds of the water lapping on the shore. Sadly we only stayed for the weekend and had to return to Bangkok all too soon. I will be back though… if you visit tell them that Nick sent you!
