South Fest Thailand 2019 in Songkhla

Over 1000 people are expected for Songhkla’s first music & cultural festival “south fest” on 11-12-13 January 2019. south fest will feature the best southern Thai artists together with five international guest artists (Canada, UK, Cuba-Germany, USA and Spain). All events during south fest are free to the public and will be held in English and Thai. south fest is a not-for-profit project supported by volunteer groups in Songkhla like the Songkhla Heritage Society with the goal of promoting Songhkla as the “Culture Capital of Southern Thailand”.

จนวน 5 คน จากประเทศแคนาดา สหราชอาณาจกร ควบา-เยอรมน สหรฐอเมรกา และสเปน งาน นฟร
สหรบทกคนและนเสนอทงภาษาองกฤษและภาษาไทย โครงการดๆไมแสวงผลกไรแบบน แบบนจด
โดยภาคคนรกเมองสงขลาและภาคเอกชน โดยมเปาหมายเพอโปรโมทสงขลาใหเปน “ศนยกลาง
วฒนธรรมแหงภาคใต”
The goal of the festival is explore and celebrate southern Thailand’s unique history and culture. Songkhla is one of the oldest towns in Thailand. It’s located on the eastern coast in southern Thailand. With Chinese temples, Buddhist wats, and Muslim mosques – Songkhla is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse parts of Southeast Asia. Songkhla also has three universities with approximately 30,000 students, new cafes, a budding art scene, a beach, and the Golden Mermaid!

south fest begins Friday night on 11 January 2019 at 6 PM. The Thai poet, Rossanee Nufarida, from Hat Yai will perform a poetry reading. Mrs. Marisol Limon (USA) will play piano rock from her newest album, Here Her Ghost. Finally, Songkhla’s swing club, LE RIRE SWING (ระรสวง) will host a dance under the stars at Songhkla’s historic Red Rice Mill..

south fest continues all Saturday, 12 January. The highlight is Saturday night with a modern dance performance by German-Cuban artist Maura Morales. Her visit to Thailand is sponsored by Germany’s Goethe-Institut and the Ministry of Culture and Science in North Rhine-Westphalia. Also performing on Saturday are the southern Thai hip hop collective PYRAMID + AMUNION32 and the Malaysian rock band, COMA.

ควบาในคนวนเสาร ซงการแสดงของเธอไดรบการสนบสนนจากสถาบนเกอรเธและกระทรวงวฒนธรรม และวทยาศาสตรใน North Rhine-Westphalia ในคนนนยงมการแสดงจากศลปนฮปฮอปวงประมด
และวงดนตร COMA วงดนตร รอคจากมาเลยเซยอกดวย
On Saturday during the day Thai and international artists will teach, give talks, and show their artwork. Artists include Mr. Emsophian Benjametha from Pattani (pottery-ceramic), Jonathan Yun from Malaysia (jewelry), Manat Nattapong from Songkhla (classic Thai Menora dance). Also during the day is a live storytelling-video performance by OXLAEY.

All day Saturday and Sunday (12 and 13 January) experts in Songhkla are giving free guided tours – in Thai and in English – through the historical Asasul Islam mosque, the City Pillar Chinese Shrine, Songkhla’s Buddhist Wat Glang, the Red Rice Mill (Hub Hoe Hin), and the Songhkla Fabric Museum.

Sunday night 13 January is the Songkhla Heritage Trust’s 2nd Sunday Walking Market featuring mini-performances from south fest’s artists starting at 6 PM.
