NEILSON HAYS LIBRARY BOOK SALE

NEILSON HAYS LIBRARY
BOOK SALE

27 June to 26 July
Tuesday through Sunday

from 9:30 to 17:00

Neilson Hays Library, a Bangkok institution renowned for its collection of over 20,000 English language books, was unfortunately not able to host it’s bi-annual book sale in May because of the Covid-19 virus restrictions.  Instead, we will hold a smaller book sale spaced out over four weeks starting Saturday 27 June through Sunday 26 July during our regular library hours from 9:30-17:00 (closed Monday).

The book sale will be held inside our garden café. Because of the limited space, the only books for sale at any point are the ones that are out in the café. We will replenish books daily as space opens up on the tables. So better to come in a few times whilst it is open rather than coming once and expecting to see everything. We also cannot go find ‘specific’ books or genres for anyone.

Locals, expat Thais and tourists alike are invited to select from the selection of fiction and non-fiction books in English, plus a selection of other languages, donated by Neilson Hays Library supporters or withdrawn from the library shelves. The popular fundraiser offers books in all genres.  Prices start at 20 baht, with a few rare books going at market value. We encourage visitors to bring their own bags in order to help us reduce waste, or Neilson Hays Library tote bags can be purchased from the cashier.

Only 10 people will be allowed inside the café at a time.  The following measures will be in place to protect from Covid-19:

  1. Each visitor must have their body temperature checked on entering the café. If your temperature exceeds 38°C you will not be permitted to enter. Please be mindful of other people’s health and don’t visit if you feel unwell.
  2. Each visitor must wear a mask at all times while inside the café and library.
  3. Hand sanitiser will be provided at the entrance. This must be used on entering and exiting the café. We ask that if you chose to wear gloves, that you sanitise or replace your gloves on entering the building.
  4. Each visitor must sign in and out either through scanning the library’s QR code, or on the café’s sign-in sheet. For those with a smartphone, simply scan the library’s QR code using a QR scanner that comes pre-installed on most mobile phones, or in the Line or Facebook apps, and then enter your mobile number. For those without smartphones, please record your name and contact details on the sign-in sheet upon entry to the café. Entry and exit times must be recorded.
  5. We ask that you maintain a safe distance from other visitors and staff.

If you have any unwanted books to contribute to the sale, please drop them off at the library between 9:30-17:00 Tuesday to Sunday. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of our landmark building and our educational and arts programs.
