American Independence Day Picnic

The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM Thailand) is once again holding the annual Independence Day Picnic on July 6, 2019 from 1 – 8 pm at Bangkok Patana School Sports Complex. A long-standing Bangkok tradition, this full-day community event brings together Americans, Thais and Bangkok residents of all nationalities.

This year, new additions to the usual line-up include an expanded soccer tournament, a shopping alley, many new booths offering children’s activities, and a softball pitch.

On the menu is a wide range of Thai and American favorites, including traditional BBQ, Tex-Mex cuisine, Greek American food, gourmet hot dogs and hamburgers, as well somtam, grilled chicken and sticky rice and ice cream and pies for dessert. Plenty of cold drinks will be on hand, including craft American beer.

Live bands Cactus Terrain, Dead Chillis, Ryan Holweger, Matthew Fischer & The Fishes, and The Stumbling Swingout will be playing American rock, blues and folk throughout the day.

Soccer teams from the U.S., British, and Australian embassy will meet for a friendly three-way soccer tournament, after which a U.S. Embassy representative will address the crowd, accompanied by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, who will be presenting and posting the colors.

For the children (and the young-at heart), there is a full day of field games including tug-o-war, gunny sack races, egg toss and pie eating contest. Kids can explore rides and play equipment, go on a scavenger hunt, or engage in crafts and activities such as face-painting, slime making, coloring and more.

Another highlight of the event is the raffle featuring prizes donated by airlines, hotels, restaurants and more. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand Foundation’s scholarship program, which last year funded 175 deserving Thai university students.
