“Love and Other Stuff” a collection of poetry
Published last year, “Love and Other Stuff” is a collection of poetry by Expat Life reader Venessa Atson. The book brings together two hundred poems. Some are thought provoking while others are funny or even inspiring. Venessa’s work covers many aspects of life including, as the title suggests, love and lots of other stuff.
I Tried to be that Girl
I tried to be that girl
That sweet and innocent girl
Who could do no wrong
Who was so strong
That girl in the magazine
I tried to be that girl
That girl who knew how to act
Who had it all figured out
Who knew what it was all about
That girl made of steel
I tried to be that girl
Who knew what she was worth
That girl on fire
The one they desire
The one they make their own
I tried to be that girl
The one they call ‘THE ONE’
Who has it all
Who never seems to fall
The perfect little girl
I tried to be that girl
The girl they’d be faithful to
The one on every man’s lips
The one with the perfect hips
The girl they’d be proud of
I tried to be that girl
That every woman wanted to be
The one with flair
The one who’s aware
Of all her hidden gems
Yes, I tried to be that girl
I tried so hard to be that girl
I tried and tried
I tried and cried
God knows I tried
I Just Made Someone’s Day
I just made someone’s day
I made someone smile
I lit up someone’s dark skies
I made someone’s heart skip a beat
I made someone very happy
If only that someone knew
They had the same effect on me
Because of Love
Because of love
I gave my all to you
I laid my heart on the line
I vowed to be true to you
Because of love
I forgave all your wrongs
I danced to your tunes
I sang all your songs
Because of love
I closed my eyes
I shut my mouth
And believed all your lies
Because of love
You took my all
You closed your heart
You watched me fall

You only saw my wrongs
You never danced to my tunes
You never sang my songs
Because of love
You never had eyes for me
Your words were never sweet
You only told lies to me
Because of love
Love I thought was true
I gave up on myself
Cause all I cared about was you
