The Coffee Club

Originating in the land down under the Coffee Club is Australia’s favourite all day cafe. No wonder the concept has worked so well in Thailand and is booming in popularity.

Fast WiFi, power points and good seating make it a comfortable setting for the digital nomad. But for those of you who prefer to put down their screens and be more social, it’s a great environment for lounging and chatting with friends over hearty comfort food and good coffee. Meanwhile, the background music remains just that: background music. Not like in many establishments where the beats or whiney vocals drown out conversation.

New on the menu are a range of tempting ice cold smoothies to combat the heat. Chocolate favourites like Nutella and Tim Tam and Raspberry Tim Tam feature alongside Tropical Thai favourites like Coconut, Passion Mango and Raspberry but I chose the Mixed Berry without the granola on top as lunch followed.

The menu delivers all the top Australian favourites like croissants loaded with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or smashed avocado, but also injects authentic Thai recipes for good measure. This winning combination transformed the classic Eggs Benedict into a Bangkok Eggs Benedict topped with crispy bacon and Thai-style Hollandaise sauce. While breakfast is available all day, you may be tempted to explore the lunch options. What could be more Thai than river prawns with Pad Thai noodles? Or the Tom Yum and River Prawns, a deliciously spicy, herbal soup.

The expanded menu offers a nice range of healthy plates too. But be warned, what may start out as an innocent hazelnut milk cold brew with a grilled chicken and quinoa salad may quickly escalate when you see the delicious variety of brownies and pancakes on offer. These are good-looking desserts that wow your eyes before tantalising your tastebuds and satisfying your belly.

Whenever I visit a cafe I usually test the barista’s powers by ordering a single espresso. I feel its the marker by which to judge good coffee. On our last visit to Coffee Club Ekkamai, Khun Barista more than hit the mark. We gave him the thumbs up and immediately ordered a hot cappuccino chaser. This was then followed by a tough decision to make. Blueberry Crumble Pancakes or Salted Caramel Banana and Cinnamon Ricotta Pancakes?
