A steak is still a steak!

Yes, of course I know that it is supposed to be unhealthy to eat red meat, but sometimes my mouth is watering only by thinking of a nice piece of meat.

I had, a while ago, the pleasure to spend a few days in Holiday Inn Hotel & Resort at Patong beach in Phuket.

I already knew that the hotel has one of the absolutely best grill restaurants in Phuket, Sam’s steak & grill. It’s ranked as number 1 in Phuket by Tripple adviser. As I had the pleasure to stay a few nights in the hotel, I of course, had to try out the Sam’s steak & grill restaurant.

This is a very classy and elegant restaurant with beautifully laid tables and comfortable leather chairs and sofas. The menu offers you a good choice and if you don’t fancy some meat, there are a big choice of fish and seafood too.

While studying the menu, you receive a small complimentary dish, just to increase your appetize. I started with a “healthy” avocado and crab salad and to follow,

I did go for a Tournedos and I like it medium rare. The plate should not be filled with blood, but the meat should have a nice red/pinkish color and be tender of course.

To a piece of good meat, you absolutely need some nice red wine (my opinion). The wine cellar consisted of wines from both the New World and the old classic ones. I and my company had a bottle from the New World and it was delicious.

What I really appreciated was that the meat was cut at the table. It’s quite rare today, but very nice I think. Believe me, the meat was melting in your mouth and the soft red wine was excellent, the two made a good marriage.

As I, and neither my company, were longing for dessert, we decided to go for an Irish coffee. Here again, the coffee was prepared in front of us and done with perfection. I have learned how important it is to let the whipped cream slowly run down into the glass from the backside of a spoon and it’s also very important to get the right amount of whisky, as the whisky is not supposed to take over. The coffee was great and it was worth not being able to sleep that night.
